Training opportunity for Latinx artists in the use of a new Augmented Reality program
PIX FILM Collective in collaboration with Southern Currents Film + Video Collective (aluCine Latin Film + Media Arts Festival) is hosting an open call for a new Artist Studio Immersion Program. Supported by the Petman Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council. PIX FILM Collective will accept artist proposals from members of Latin Canadian communities to create and exhibit their work in a new, virtual space with no walls and boundless possibilities for an open imagination in the ARTIFICIAL MUSEUM.
From these proposals, eight (8) artists will be selected by a jury of peers and industry professionals.
Selected artists will be offered a paid opportunity to be guided through a new augmented reality program. They will be provided with technical skill development for the execution of their own Augmented Reality project and web-based exhibition.
The completed works will be exhibited in Augmented Reality via the ARTIFICIAL MUSEUM in Toronto (both on-site and online).
Proposals should be reflective of creativity, optimism, and resilience. This project will encourage new experimental creations, or the opportunity to adapt previous works into 3D AR for exhibition.
Participants will be trained in the use of the 3D modeling software “Blender,” as well as 360 immersive photography.
Eligibility criteria:
● This project is designed as an opportunity for Latin Canadian media and visual artists
● The proposed project should allow the artist to grow and innovate within their practice
● PIX FILM Collective encourages submissions from applicants at all stages of their careers
● Must be willing to commit to 6 online or onsite workshop classes
● Knowledge of PhotoShop, 2D/3D digital art, or any media software is an asset.
Submissions should include:
● Summary of proposal (max. 300 words)
● Artist bio and CV
● Support materials: Up to 3 sketches or other media materials that support your proposal and/or examples of relevant previous work
Chosen artists will be paid $1000 CAD for production and skill development, in addition to $200 CAD for exhibition of their work.
